What Can I Expect For My Money ?

The Illinois Trails Conservancy has a Board Members located throughout the State of Illinois who have experience in all types of trail building. We can provide you with advice on railroad right of way acquisition, event planning, advocacy building, support group building, maintenance and development. We can provide you with current maps. We can assist you with conservation and environmental concerns. We can share information across boundaries where government bodies are sometimes reluctant to go. We can be your voice in Springfield.

What has ITC Done So Far & What is Planned for the Future ?

Illinois Trails Conservancy has served on Conservation Congress and prioritized trails as important to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Illinois Trails Conservancy attends quarterly meetings of IDNR and IDOT in Springfield making sure that trails remain high on the agenda of each agency. Illinois Trails Conservancy will assist in regional workshops throughout the State to assist communities in developing trail networks.

Our Mission

The Illinois Trails Conservancy's Mission is to enhance the quality of life in Illinois by connecting the state's communities and country-sides with an interconnected, multi-use public trail network, and by promoting the use of trails for recreation and transportation.

Who is The Illinois Conservancy ?

The Illinois Trails Conservancy was formed when Rails-to-Trails (RTC) closed its Illinois Field office in January 1999. The volunteer members of the RTC Illinois Advisory Board then formed the Illinois Trails Conservancy (ITC) a new organization that promotes and supports multi-use trails statewide. ITC continues to partner with RTC when assistance is needed at the national level.

Why Do Trails Need A Statewide Advocate ?

While many local trail support groups exist, there is still a need to communicate and network their efforts at the State level. Illinois Trails Conservancy provides that level of communication and encourages networking in order to develop the big picture. ITC will help communities overcome resistance to cooperate and communicate. ITC will educate people about the positive benefits of trails and monitor trail oriented legislation at the capitol. A statewide trail network requires statewide planning. The ITC is the only organization that addresses issues facing all trail users statewide.

How Can I Help ?

The Illinois Trails Conservancy relies on members and friends to support its work. Since we received our credentials in 1999 we have enlisted a growing number of members. Please join us in our efforts to provide a statewide system of trails for Illinois.
